Located in Northern Bulgaria and along Yantra River, Veliko Tarnovo is the capital of Veliko Tarnovo Province, and is often cited as the City of Tsars. This city is most famous for being the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire. The town is currently home to around seventy thousand people, and a good number are students studying at one of the largest universities in the country.

Veliko Tarnovo holds an important place in Bulgarian history and is in fact one of the oldest towns in the country, being traced back more than five thousand years. Trains from various parts of Bulgaria can get you to the small train station in Veliko Tarnovo, or one may alight at the larger train station in Gorna Oryahovitsa.
